William Zinsser comments that "I'll Be Seeing You," although written several years before WWII, was "resuscitated during the war [becoming] the talisman for all separated lovers longing to see each other again 'in all the old familiar places'" (p. 154).

Ed.'s note: The resuscitation of "I'll Be Seeing You" during the war was due to, outside of the war itself, two 1943 hit recordings, one by Bing Crosby and the other by Tommy Dorsey and His Orchestra with vocal by Frank Sinatra.
