"Among My Souvenirs"
According to Patricia Dubin McGuire, Al Dubin's daughter, her father wrote the lyric for "Among My Souvenirs" at about the same time he wrote the words for "A Cup of Coffee, a Sandwich and You" (1925). Sometime later, at a moment when he needed money fast, he found the words to the song along with its title scribbled on the back of an old gas bill and sold the lyric to Edgar Leslie for $25.00. Leslie got full credit and over the years also received substantial royalties as the song grew into a standard. Such means of raising cash were not unusual for the often hard-pressed songwriter, but according to McGuire, her father "only brooded over 'Among My Souvenirs'."
